Triple Industry Recognition For Fairburn’s

This month we’re celebrating not one, not two, but three leading industry award wins.

PULLET-ZER PRIZE Starting our family-owned business with 150 chickens in 1951, we now rear over 1.5 million pullets annually, both for our own farms and partner producers, and with over 50 years of rearing experience, our aim has always been to give our chicks the very best start in life. So, we were delighted to have our efforts recognised when we won the Pullet Rearer of the Year award at the National Egg & Poultry Awards held in London on 9 July.

At Fairburn’s we rear several breeds of hen producing a variety of eggs, stringently checked by our experienced rearing team, as well as being approved by the British Lion Code and RSPCA assured, to ensure the highest standards of hygiene and bird welfare. We raise all our pullets from day old chicks in Lincolnshire and this plaudit from industry peers recognises the investment we’ve made over recent years to ensure our rearing sites continue to offer world-class facilities to deliver the nation’s eggs.

POPPY PRIDE At the same awards, our very own Poppy Jones received the Young Farmer of the Year award, one of three awards specifically rewarding young people making a difference. As Fairburn’s national assistant production manager, Poppy joined us on a supply chain degree apprenticeship, which has given her the opportunity to work across every area of the business and she was also part of the team that helped launch our industry-first ‘bed and breakfast’ partnership.

Poppy was raised on a poultry farm and her Mum is a Fairburn’s producer, so agriculture and egg production runs deep in the family. At just 22 years old and despite struggling with dyslexia, she cracked the challenge and is making a real name for herself in the food & farming world. Her maturity and tenacity demonstrate how much young people can achieve in the industry and we couldn’t be prouder of her.

FAMILY FOCUS Taking home the prize of Family Business of the Year award at the recent Lincolnshire Business Excellence Awards completes the Fairburn’s hat-trick. As a British family business since 1951, we take a very hands-on approach and are the third generation of Fairburn’s to produce eggs. We’ve been on an incredible journey over recent years and we’ll continue to push boundaries and innovate, while still retaining our focus on the family values at the heart of our business.

“We are immensely proud of the progress we’ve made over the last few years”, said Fairburn’s CEO Daniel Fairburn. “To be recognised by industry peers and the wider business community means so much, and to take home three major awards in one week is testament to the passion and commitment shown by our team. These award wins wouldn’t have been possible without the tireless efforts of our amazing employees and the support we have from our retail customers.”
