National Three Peaks Challenge 2021

Dear Friends,

The last 12 months has been tough for so many but spare a thought for those in Africa who have the triple whammy of the COVID pandemic;
flooding, drought and even locusts due to climate change, and poverty.

As you will probably be aware, we are proud supporters of the brilliant charity Farm Africa which does vital work assisting smallholder farmers in east Africa. It helps them to increase harvests, become self-sufficient and start businesses, enabling local people to escape poverty and educate their families.

Three years ago, Daniel completed two heart-pumping marathons in two days across the Sahara Desert raising over £26,000 for Farm Africa and in 2014 climbed Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania helping to raise £45,000, also for the charity.

As helping fellow farmers is a cause so close to his heart, he thought it was about time we took on another challenge to support Farm Africa; it’s also the company’s 70th anniversary. So, with international travel currently restricted, we’ve decided to take on the National Three Peaks. A Fairburn’s team will be scaling the heights of BEN NEVIS in Scotland, SCAFELL PIKE in England and SNOWDON in Wales – all in just 24 hours.

We would really appreciate your support in helping to raise as much money as possible for Farm Africa. Please sponsor our team. Details of the sponsorship packages are included here, along with contact details should you wish to find out more about the trip. We’ll be sharing news and pictures from the challenge on our website and social media too.

Yours sincerely
The Fairburn Team

WHY FARM AFRICA?

Seventy years ago, our family business, L J Fairburn & Son Limited, was founded with just 150 chickens and £150 in the bank.

Starting small and growing sustainably is what we are about and whilst it may be on a different scale we feel that growth and prosperity can be achieved in eastern Africa.

Farm Africa’s approach to ending hunger is to tackle the root causes. Helping smallholder farmers produce bigger harvests is a sustainable long term solution. Farmers learn to produce more food so there’s enough to eat for their families and communities – for good.

For us this challenge is not just about financial investment but providing the skills to farmers so that they can grow and develop.

The farmers trained by Farm Africa go on to train other farmers in their area through “Farmer Field Schools”. Providing practical tools, improved seed varieties and training we can help African farmers feed Africa’s people! We are rising to the challenge and you can too, by helping us support Farm Africa, either through sponsorship or by donating to our Just Giving page.

Please support us in any way you can. Thank You!

Daniel Fairburn - CEO - LJ Fairburn & Son Ltd

"L J Fairburn & Son have been dedicated supporters of Farm Africa since 2013. After a year like no other, we are delighted that the team is taking on this extraordinary challenge across the UK to support farmers and food producers in eastern Africa. The vital funds raised by the L J Fairburn team will enable Farm Africa to reduce poverty by helping farmers to grow more, sell more and sell for more.
